Pakhtoon Students Federation

Sep 01, 2015 5:03pm Pukhtoon Students Federation (PSF) is a progressive political student organization. It was founded by a group of nationalist students in 1968 who choose Nisar Shinwari as the first president of PSF. Currently, it is present in numerous universities of Pakistan especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. Pukhtoon Students Federation was formally founded on 8 April, 1968, at the historical tomb of the national hero Khushaal Khan Khattak at Akora Khattak Nowshera (Nowkhar). Very rapidly it became a platform for the welfare and awareness of Pukhtoon students, and its members started working closely with other nationalist forces. After being independent in the initial years, PSF was made a formal organization of the Awami National Party by ANP President Begum Nasim Wali Khan. However, PSF units in the academic institutes remain independent of ANP as well as decentralized and adapted to the needs of the environment. It is a student organization which is leftist, secular, liberal, progressive and nationalist in nature. Every student belonging historically to the regional Pukhtoonkhwa irrespective of his/her color, race language and religion can become a member of PSF. This student federation is the legacy of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan "Bacha" Khan (1890 - 20 Jan 1988), a Pashtun political and spiritual leader known for his non-violent opposition to British Rule in India and his Khudai Khidmatgar movement. His grandson, Asfandyar Wali Khan, as a student activist, launched and organized PSF and became its Central Executive Committee member during the national uprising against the dictatorship of General Ayub Khan. Pukhtoon Students Federation opposed the military dictatorship of General Yahya Khan who replaced Ayub Khan in 1969, and consequently Yahya Khan ban PSF in educational institutes. Constitution of PSF 1. To spread the light of knowledge and art. 2. Follow the non-violence principles of Abdul Ghaffar Baacha Khan. 3. Promotion of Pashto language, culture, Pukhtoonwali code and cementing of national bonds on the basis of culture. 4. To champion and safeguard the rights of Students Specially Pukhtoons students. 5. To work for the unification of all Pukhtoons and cementing of the national unity on the basis of Pukhtoon traditions, solidarity and integrity of Pukhtoon society with progressive thinking. 6. To support democratic forces and to oppose imperialistic and colonial powers and work for the development of country, nation and all humanity.
